Dr. Kauffman has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. He has been board certified in family practice and osteopathic medicine since 1997. He received an undergraduate pre-medical degree from Lehigh University. He went on to medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, receiving his doctorate of osteopathic medicine in 1994. He did a three-year residency in family practice and primary care, urgent care medicine, osteopathic medicine, and pain management. He has been practicing primary care, urgent care, and pain management for over 20 years.
Dr. Kauffman is a hands-on physician. He prides himself on being able to treat most of his patients’ problems right in his own office— without needing to refer to the emergency room or specialists for most acute medical problems. He is an independent physician and is not owned by any hospital group or practice and therefore is able to refer his patients to the most qualified specialists and hospitals to treat his patient’s’ specific problems.

Dr. Kauffman is certified in prolotherapy by the American College for Advancement of Medicine.

He is now dedicated to treating patients with orthopedic and spinal injuries with the latest technologies in stem cell and platelet-rich plasma injections.

Dr. Kauffman got involved in platelet-rich plasma injections and stem cell therapies for chronic pain and orthopedic problems due to notable problems and issues with traditional pain medicine. These include the use of the controversial opiate pain medication management and using steroid injections. Steroid injections can be toxic and cause more breakdown and degeneration of orthopedic injuries and arthritis, along with having serious risks when injecting in the spine.

Dr. Kauffman became extremely interested in platelet-rich plasma injections and stem cell therapy which allows patients to heal their own spine and orthopedic injuries using their own bodies immune system. This form of treatment has far fewer risks and side effects since PRP and stem cells are derived from the patient’s own body— thereby avoiding any negative reactions with drugs and other medications.

Dr. Kauffman also became very interested in PRP and stem cell as it is a holistic medical approach which corresponds with his osteopathic medical training. He understands that surgery is very necessary in many cases, however, Dr. Kauffman feels that surgery is over-utilized for orthopedic injuries. Procedures like knee replacements, hip replacements, and shoulder replacement are not always successful and in some cases, the patient’s conditions worsen after surgery.

Dr. Kauffman is married and has five children ranging from five years of age to 21 years of age. Dr. Kauffman enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid golfer and Philadelphia sports fan.

Dr. Kauffman understands the importance of good primary care and prevention and a good one-on-one relationship between the doctor and patient. He feels this has been lost in today’s medical environment with large groups owned by hospital practices and corporations. Dr. Kauffman prides himself on being available to all of his patients 24/7 and his patients have his cell phone number and can text him with any medical issues at any time of the day or week.

Dr. Kauffman prides himself in offering his patients same-day visits for urgent medical matters allowing patients to frequently avoid having to go to the emergency room. Remember, all of Dr. Kauffman’s patients see only Dr. Kauffman and never have to see a physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner at his practice.

Please feel free to contact Dr. Kauffman about his practice or any medical issues or pain conditions.
